The Community Research Institute (CRI) gathers, analyzes, interprets, and shares national and local data through partnerships with nonprofit and neighborhood groups in an effort to assist local and regional nonprofit leaders with decision making, grant writing, and program evaluation.
Believe 2 Become

A neighborhood initiative, Believe 2 Become is a community effort designed to help children succeed in work, school, and life by recognizing their unlimited potential, having great expectations, and finding real opportunities for every child to realize his or her dreams. This effort is in partnership with Grand Rapids Public Schools, Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation, dozens of community-based and faith-based organizations and the Douglas and Maria DeVos Foundation.

On behalf of the Kent County Great Start Collaborative and First Steps, CRI worked with more than 40 community partners to generate dozens of potential indicators that were then vetted and analyzed with an eye toward national best practice. The list was culled further based on a number of factors, including data availability, reliability and relevance to the core elements of Kent County's early childhood community vision. This presentation, delivered June 16 and 17 to a Believe 2 Become project Baby Scholars event, highlights some of the baseline data for Kent County's early childhood indicators.
